abstract = "The objective of this study is to apply a simple method to
estimate the actual evapotranspiration at Rio Pirapama
basin(Pernambuco State, Brazil), through estimates of reference
evapotranspiration and vegetation cover fraction, using images
from the MODIS / TERRA sensor (MOD13Q1 product NDVI). The
estimation method of actual evapotranspiration through GIS
techniques and satellite images makes use of the rate between
reference evapotranspiration values and the vegetation cover
fraction. To estimate the reference evapotranspiration (ETo), the
methods of Penman-Monteith-FAO, Hargreaves, Camargo, Thornthwaite
and Makkink were used, based on daily weather data from three
automatic stations from INMET (Brazilian National Meteorological
Institute), located around studied basins area. The results showed
that the direct observation for the days analyzed allowed to note
that the spatial distribution of the results of ETr (actual
evapotranspiration) is the same, since the maps had the same
origin (the map of vegetation cover fraction), differentiating at
reference evapotranspiration values used for estimate of actual
evapotranspiration. It is noted that the Makkinks method presented
an upper limit of evapotranspiration than that estimated by the
method of Camargo. This is because the estimation of the reference
evapotranspiration was higher by Makkink method than Camargos.",
